Five For Friday

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching this week for Five For Friday!

Today was the last day of our NYS Math Assessment! PHEW! I am relieved that it is finally over! I was so proud of my fourth graders for working the entire time and doing their best!

We worked on BLACK OUT POETRY this week! Black out poetry is fun because you take a page of text, circle the words you would like to use in your poem, and BLACK OUT the rest of the text using a design. I geared this towards our novel studies by copying pages from our read aloud texts. It was a fun way to revisit previous read alouds and the kids had a great time creating their black out poetry after a long morning of state testing!

I've been working nonstop this year on novel studies! Recently, I completed a series of I Survived book studies. Has anyone read these? My fourth graders DEVOUR them. And they're great! They are historical fiction texts about real events, like Hurricane Katrina or the San Francisco Earthquake!

After the state test this week, we needed a break. We needed some FROZEN! My students are so into this movie! So, we've watched it during lunch bunch and I decided to let them watch the Frozen Disney impersonator. This guy is TALENTED! He sings "Let It Go" in the voices of various Disney characters! My students loved it and begged to watch it over and over again.

This. Happened.

  1. One of my third grade students LOVES those I Survived books. I had never heard of them before she started bringing them in. It's always the BEST when your students want to read a book series.

    1. When my students got into this series, I did too! Reading about history through these texts is so emotional for me! And of course, my students think it is hilarious that these books make their teacher cry. But then they want to read them even more!
