Positive Thinking Thursday

I am linking up with Mrs. Laffin's Laughings for
Positive Thinking Thursday!

The website TechnologyRocks has tons of free posters like these. I frame my favorites and hang them on the wall in my classroom. The funny thing is, when I taught fourth grade last year I was always referring to the posters and reminding kids of how they should behave. Now that I teach second grade, but kids are inherently good...they just haven't changed into the sassy kids I knew in fourth grade. Now when I reference these posters it's to praise my sweet little second graders for doing the right thing on their own!

Positive Thinking Thursday

I am linking up with Mrs. Laffin's Laughings for
Positive Thinking Thursday!

I did this outside of my classroom door and I think it screams positivity!
When parents and students walk into my classroom they are immediately greeted by the idea that this room is all of ours and that I am here for them. I pretty much love it.

Lucy Love

Cute, right?
Every week my students and I write letters back and forth in our Reader Response Journals. I have been urging them to add more details to their letters and make their opening paragraph interesting. They have begun asking a million questions about Lucy. Of course.

Liebster Award

I am super thrilled to be nominated by another Liebster Award by 4th Grade Funky Town! So cool!

The Liebster Award is is awarded to new bloggers with less than 200 followers. This is a great way to recognize other bloggers with excellent ideas but have yet to be noticed! As a part of the Liebster Award, you get a chance to know me a little better by reading a little about me in 11 short questions I get to respond to! After that, I nominate 11 other blogs that I admire and love! Let's get started:)

1.) Why and how long ago did you start blogging?
I started blogging last year. I go through bouts of daily blog posts and then some dry spells...like the beginning of the school year! I decided to start blogging because it sounded like a nice way to share ideas for the classroom with other educators.

2. ) What one word sums up the heart of your blog and why?
Collaboration. I try to share as many great ideas as I can, pass on the ones I find  on other blogs, and even talk about the stuff that doesn't always work.

3.) Is there something you learned late in your blog journey you wished you knew before?
I feel like I'm still pretty new to blogging, but as soon as I started linking up with other blogs I was exposed to so many more bloggers! It gave me a lot of extra reading for myself!

4. )What is your favorite past time other than blogging?
I love spending time with my adorable dog, Lucy. She is a bulldog puggle mix and the cutest, sweetest thing ever. We walk along the Erie Canal every day. I also enjoy reading, running, and making items for TpT.

5. )How many hours per week do you dedicate to your blog?
It depends...in the summer I was blogging daily! Now, it kinda takes a backseat to school and planning for the classroom!

6.) What category of blog posts do you enjoy the most?
Duh. Freebies. Also, anything related to the Daily 5 because I love using it in my classroom and enjoy seeing how other people make it your own. I like any kind of behavior management posts, too. Fresh ideas are fun!

7. )Where does your blog inspiration come from?
Other blogs! Reading blogs about teaching takes up a lot of my time, and I thought it would be fun to join the blogging community.

8.) Which post that you've written are you most proud of?
Any post with a Lucy picture. She is the cutest. My students love her too. I write letters to my students in their Reader Response Journals each week, and they write back. I always get questions about Lucy. What's Lucy's favorite toy? Does Lucy like sitting on your porch? Does Lucy want to come to school?

9.) Is there any post you have been planning to do, but have postponing it for a while now?
Hmmm...I should probably blog more about math. I've been a little ELA lopsided it seems.

10. ) What is your favorite aspect of blogging?
My favorite aspect of blogging is totally connecting with other teachers!

11 ) Which recipe, project, or idea on my blog would you most likely to try yourself?
Jennifer responded to this question describing using Washi tape. I see Washi tape everywhere and I've never tried it and I really want to! So, maybe someday.

Here are my nominees for the Liebster Award:

To those nominated, here are the rules:1. In your post, link back to the blogger who nominated you as a thank you and "shout out."2. Answer the 11 questions given to you (the ones I answered above).3. Nominate 11 blogs of your choice that each have less than 200 followers. Provide them with 11 questions to answer or have them answer the questions above.4. Let your nominees know that they've been nominated and provide them with a link to your post so that they can accept.5. Send your nominator a link to your post so that s/he can learn more about you as well! (You can just put your post link in the comments below!)

Monday Made It

I'll be linking up with Tara at Fourth Grade Frolics.
It's time for another Monday Made It!

Brownie Points!
A fun incentive that I found online...I forget where...

I used Velcro so the kids can easily see how many more brownies they need to earn (through hard work and good behavior) before earning a reward!

Positive Thinking Thursday

Now that I'm teaching second grade, I feel like teaching kindness is even more important than ever. As a fourth grade teacher, sometimes I got the feeling like it was already too late...some kids were already kinda mean spirited at times, and purposefully so. Now, they are just so innocent! I feel like it's up to me to keep that sweetness alive.

Monday Made It

I'll be linking up with Tara at Fourth Grade Frolics.
It's time for another Monday Made It!

Show What You Know
and
What's For Lunch?

Magnets are awesome for lunch count! I love it. These are working out really well for the second grade students in my class this year.

AND
I've been busy! I am COMPLETELY finished with my second grade EngageNY Math module review packs! There are games to review each module, practice questions for re-teaching, and formative assessments in the form of multiple choice and short response that align with each topic in each module!

Spark Student Motivation Saturday

I'm linking up on this LOVELY Saturday with Joanne over at Head Over Heels For Teaching. You know what that means...Spark Student Motivation Saturday!

Has anyone tried Adapted Mind?
It's a website that teachers can sign their classes up for. Each child has a password, and as they answer reading/math questions, the website differentiates automatically.

I guess it's usually around $200 for a yearly subscription, but right now they are having some special deal...another teacher in my district sent me an email that if we get 5 teachers in the district to sign up, the subscription is FREE!

Five for Friday

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching this week for Five For Friday!

I got my latest Stitchfix!
If you didn't know, Stitchfix is when you set up a style profile and a stylist selects 5 great looks for you. They send your Stitchfix in the prettiest box! You receive five items, decide what to keep, pay online, and send the rest back. It's perfect for people like me who need a tiny push to be a bit more adventurous with clothing and accessories! This was my last box:

KEEP!
Softest shirt ever! Fit perfectly! And the white part is this cool meshy material.

Big debate. Ultimately, I decided no. I was crazy about the color, not crazy about the shapes.

Awesome dress! But too short. So, I sent it back.

Looked cute, and I loved the buttons on the sleeves. BUT...it was too big. :(

SO CUTE! But a tiny bit too long for my short self.

The Global Read Aloud starts in October! If you haven't signed up and found a classroom to partner with, get on it! This year, it's a Peter Reynolds author study, and we're reading a TON of great Peter Reynolds books. Before signing up, I only knew about The Dot and Ish. It's opened my eyes to even more great picture books!

She is just too darn cute. And a tiny bit angry looking.

All of the second grade math goodies I made during curriculum writing went right on TpT, if you're interested! Reviews for each module, lessons, games, topic by topic formative assessments, etc.

Use my referral link to try Stitchfix for yourself!
It's a lot of fun! I'm not a fashionista, but I love having a box of goodies filled with styles and colors I might not be brave enough to try on my own!
